This workshop is designed to assist teachers in using fraction bars, pattern blocks and number lines to teach all the areas of fractions. It will concentrate on the numerator and denominator, equals, greater than, less than, ordering, mixed numbers along with rounding, estimating as well as all aspects of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

 

Base ten materials, and metric tapes will be used to deal with decimal representations of the common fraction.

We will be involved with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division along with rounding and changing common fractions to decimals. If time permits, division of whole numbers and ways of assessing this operation will be discussed.
