“Technology in Teaching Mathematics” Sharing Conference

Description: Technology has changed how we approach the teaching of mathematics. This conference offers mini-workshops on a variety of technological approaches. Each workshop will use a Smartboard for presentations.
Target Audience: Grade 7 - 12 Mathematics and Special Education Teachers
Registration : 3:15 – 3:30 PM Session 1: 3:30 -4:30 PM Session 2: 4:45 – 5:45 PM

Session 1
Workshop 1: TI Graphing Calculator
Focus: Using TI-Apps (Transformation, Inequality and Probability, Cabri Jr., etc.,) and TI SmartView to help students understand topics in algebra and statistics.
Workshop 2: SmartBoards and SmartNotebook
Focus: How can this technology enhance the mathematics classroom? Learn how to use SmartNotebook with links to the web and other technology resources.
Workshop 3: TI Graphing Calculator and Scientific Probes
Focus: Using the TI-Graphing Calculator and PC Computer with scientific probes (motion, temperature, light, etc.), collect and analyze real-life data.
Workshop 4: Autograph
Focus: Using the power of Autograph, a graphing and statistical software program, to introduce topics in algebra 1, algebra 2, and statistics and in creating professional looking worksheets and assessments. Autograph is the number one selling mathematics program in Europe.
Session 2
Workshop 5: Internet and Mathematics
Focus: Investigate a number of mathematics web-sites that can be used as student resources, lesson activities, or demonstrations.
Workshop 6: Geometer’s Sketchpad
Focus: How can this program be used in geometry and algebra classrooms for investigations and demonstrations?
Workshop 7: Using Technology to Teach the Curriculum Framework
Focus: There exist many patterns in the methods of solutions of MCAS problems. How can technology visually represent these patterns and solution methods?
Workshop 8: TI Navigator
Focus: What is this new technological tool from TI and how can it increase student participation and involvement in your classes?
Fee: $5 for Member Districts $25 for non-Member Districts
