Description:

Green chemistry is a revolutionary science that aims to change the field of chemistry through the design of products and process that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances. Learn about this exciting new field and how companies, governments, communities and educators are working together towards a sustainable future.

Green Chemistry is a call to arms for the next generation of students to study the physical and materials sciences. The philosophy of green chemistry puts a subject, which is generally considered abstract and difficult, into a familiar context relevant to the daily lives of students. The relationship between Green Chemistry and the environment provides a uniquely positive, solutions-based starting point for encouraging students, who are greatly interested in the environment, to consider positive contributions they can make in any scientific field.

This presentation will introduce green chemistry and will discuss free curriculum and educational resources for K-12 educators provided by Beyond Benign.  If you’ve wanted to find ways to minimize the negative environmental impact of you and your classes while learning some novel ways of doing lab work, this workshop will provide the means to do so.
