Description: This course is designed to provide elementary teachers with “tools” to assist them with many facets of running a classroom successfully. Such methods are meant to supply teachers with pragmatic ways to keep their learning environments running smoothly while working within the academic rigors of the state standards and meeting the needs of the variety of learners in their classrooms. This course is being taught by two veteran teachers using their ideas as well as ideas from the highly regarded educator, Harry Wong.
Sessions 1 and 2:
Setting up classroom expectations, routines and procedures
Session 3:
Classroom management including appropriate discipline and reward techniques
Session 4:
Communication with parents and with students
Session 5:
Cooperative learning for you and for your students
Session 6
Opportunities to take actual examples from participants’ own classrooms and to work together to apply appropriate strategies learned to these individual situations
