Description:

This interactive workshop for chemistry, physical science, and SPED teachers has been designed to provide lesson modifications, graphic organizers, and other activities meant to help students understand the abstract concepts in chemistry.  In the first part of the workshop, teachers will be introduced to a series of these activities.  Handouts for all materials will be provided and electronic copies will be given for those bringing media storage devices so that you can further modify them to fit your needs.

The second part of the workshop will consist of teacher sharing and development of new lesson modifications.  Each teacher is asked to bring at least one lesson (in electronic format) that he or she feels has been particularly effective at reaching students.  You will be asked to briefly share your idea with everyone.  We will then break out into groups based on particular interests and develop modifications for our own classes based on the variety of materials introduced in the workshop.

Please bring your sample lesson/modification on an electronic storage device to share with everyone and to make electronic copies of lessons presented in the workshop.  It is also recommended that you bring your class text book and a list of SPED modifications that you are asked to provide.  During the break out sessions you will have the opportunity to develop modifications to meet the needs of your particular students.  Please keep in mind that these lessons and activities will be appropriate for all students, not only those with learning disabilities.
